Something Old; Something New

I guess it is the change of seasons, but I have been in a mood to change things up.  I rearranged my living room furniture, changed out my decor to more subtle colors and have even started changing out to some fall clothing, even tho it is still in the 90s here.   I have also visited some vintage shops and estate sales and came away with some treasures - old  and new

One of my favorite new items is a sweet throw pillow handmade by Judy at a wonderful blog called http://20northora.blogspot.com  Judy has an Etsy shop where she sells some of her wonderful needlecraft creations.   https://www.etsy.com/shop/20northora.  I am totally in love with this pillow.  It is a beige linen fabric with a vintage doily sewn on the front and a precious pink rose shaped button in the center.  I just redid my bedroom in pink and white so this pillow is perfect!  Check out her shop and her blog!  This is not a sponsored post -- I saw the pillow, bought it and then asked her if I could share on my blog so everyone could see her beautiful work.

She also tied a bit of vintage silk as a tassel on the top right corner.  Very sweet

In my living room I added this vintage wood and iron piece along with my urn filled with my daughter's bridal bouquet that I dried.  They were cream colored roses and they dried into this beautiful soft creamy pink.

I also changed out my china in my breakfast room hutch to my grandmother's Johnson Brothers Olde English Countryside transferware.  This is such a warm, beautiful scene and it is perfect for Fall.

Found this fabulous chippy wood mirror at an estate sale!

Bought some faux hydrangeas for the galvanized watering can that I found at the side of the road a few weeks ago.

My next project is to find some little white pumpkins, acorns and pine cones for a table centerpiece.  I don't use orange in my decor cause I have so much pink in my house.  I prefer to stay with creams, greens and browns - always with a touch of pink.

I am really enjoying seeing how other bloggers are changing things for the new season.  Whether we call it nesting, fluffing or, as I like to say - preparing my den to hibernate - this season seems to bring out a need to create a comfy, nurturing indoor space in preparation for the winter ahead.

Do you feel this change in the air?

  3. I'm dieing to make some changes but just can't face going into the garage to "hunt" for "new again" items to bring upstairs. I know that one day soon it will hit me and I'll be down there digging and searching. I make it sound awful. It is not really but it is full and the last thing added is always first up. I love the by the road watering can. Perfect price. The mirror is gorgeous. I've been adding a lot of mirrors since I am lucky enough to be able to bounce the outside greenery off them. Actually, I love everything. Looking good girl.

    1. Thanks Barbara! I understand your hesitation about going out into the garage to "hunt". I feel the same way about getting things down out of my attic. It seems I put it off and put it off, and then, one day, the mood strikes me and I can't wait to get in there. This year I rushed it a bit - probably cause of having such a hot summer.

  4. SO good to "meet" you! Most of my recent changes have come as a result of the domino effect that began when my 90 year old father agreed to move in with us :)

I like chippy mirrors an have a couple of pieces of that Johnson Brothers pattern that I use decoratively...

We probably have OTHER things in common, too :)

    1. Thanks for visiting Rebecca! I am have read several of your posts and I DO believe we probably have a lot in common. I look forward to getting to know you better through your blog! Adding another person to your household will, indeed, change things around. Your father is blessed to be able to come live with you.

  5. Your "chippy" pieces are wonderful! I love the one that is arched at top with the iron in the middle.. love the watering can too! And your bedroom.... ah.h.h.h. pinks... of course I would love it, and Judy's pillow is so pretty. I love how she uses doilies for many of her decorating pieces. I'm not feeling the "nesting" urge yet of Fall, but am liking orange more and more for some reason. Like you, I don't "do" orange very much in my house, but for Fall, I usually put a tablecloth on the table that is all Fall colors.... lots of purple, yellow, black, orange... and then a pretty bouquet of colorful leaves, branches and stems, with maybe some yellow mums. Still trying to get outdoor "winterizing" done so that's all I'm concentrating on now! plus have to work the next couple of weeks, and NOT looking forward to it! It's going to stall me out until Oct. 7th when I'll be done! Happy Sunday! Marilyn

    1. Yes - you would love my bedroom - it is like a pink and white cloud! It is such a relaxing space. I have been on the lookout for some small white pumpkins but keep seeing some really cute ones that are white with orange stripes and I have been tempted to get some of them and maybe use them on my porch outside. Looking forward to seeing your colorful fall decor. Sorry you have to work the next couple of weeks BUT at least you will be done around the time the fall weather really starts to get fabulous. I LOVE crisp, colorful October days! I haven't put my garden to bed yet -- but I plan to do that over the next couple of weekends. This year I put a lot of my houseplants out on my front porch and need to being them back in - making sure to leave any bugs OUTSIDE. Enjoy your week!

  7. I'm still away at the mo but as soon as I'm home my energies will turn to all things Autumn and festive. Your Johnson Brothers ware makes me feel very nostalgic as my dad worked there for many years we always had lovely pottery at home as a child much of it would be seconds I expect I'm still a potteries girl at heart even though I left the area in my 20's my mum still lives in Stoke-on-Trent so I often go back there. That cushion is lovely I'm going to have a look at Judy's Etsy shop I need some new cushions and pillows. I really like how you group items together I'm a little wary with having too much at child hight with my grandkids though lol

    1. Oh wow -- that is so cool that your dad worked at Johnson Brothers! How wonderful to be surrounded by beautiful pottery growing up. Thank you for your comment about my groupings. My grandgirl is 2 and a half and she has been good about not bothering things. Luckily, most of my things in her reach aren't breakable (my pottery is in a hutch that is too high for little hands).

  9. Change is definitely in the air here in northern IL! In fact, it is downright cool today (60's). Feels lovely, but I sure am not looking forward to what comes next. Our winters are brutal. Love your new pillow from Judy (she's a longtime blogger friend of mine) and all the beautiful, soft touches around your house.

    1. Thank you Melanie. Yes -- I am very happy to have discovered Judy's blog. In fact - I think I may have found her through your blog! I was telling a friend of mine at work today that as happy as I am now about the cooler weather - I will be griping about the frigid weather when December gets here. I am not a fan of either of the extremes!

I haven't even thought about season changes yet --since until today (which is gorgeous) ---it has been so doggone hot here... I told hubby I'm not ready to buy pumpkins or do any Fall decorating yet.. Maybe I will get in the mood now that it is cooler.

    Thanks for sharing the beauty.

  13. I've just been taking some photos of my (ahem) garden - spring flowers, though some may call them weeds. I like them. Maybe I can make a post of them sometime.
Your autumn decor is very soft and feminine, lovely.
