Falling into Autumn

I am ready for fall and from all of the posts I am reading, it seems others are too.  I am excited for a little crispness in the air and being able to open my windows to let in the fresh air without constant air conditioning.

I am; however, trying to embrace the late summer beauty, knowing that soon the leaves will fall and the flowers will fade.  With all of the rain we have had this summer, there is lush greenery everywhere.

I saw this on my walk this morning growing at the foot of a tree.  It was so delicate and complex.

I am transitioning my decor to more late summer/early fall colors.  Made a trip to HomeGoods this week and found these fabulous pillows to refresh the sofa in my sitting room.  I love decorating my home with muted greens, browns and creams in fall.  In Spring and Summer I tend to use more creams, whites and pinks.

The patina on this urn found at a yard sale adds to the cozy, natural ambience I love.  It stands on its own in my living room.  I'd love to find some silk hydrangeas or dried ones for it.  I haven't had any luck drying hydrangeas myself.

I went to a party last night and this beautiful arrangement was on the table and I got to bring it home!  Perfect late summer bouquet!

Found this great metal tray at a garage sale for $1.00.  I am perusing Pinterest for ideas to make it into a pretty fall centerpiece for my breakfast room!

I am making myself wait til Labor Day to do more transitioning but couldn't resist these little refreshes.

How about you?  Are you making any changes in your decor yet?

  1. I feel exactly the same. I love fall colors the best so it is really hard for me to hold back. But I'm trying to wait for Labor Day. Maybe I'll make it .... maybe not.

  2. I love the change of seasons...I will shop for Chrysanthemums soon and then, when we go to Arizona to live in our tiny park model, I will begin summer all over again. A Christmas tree will be added in Dec. and I even love the bulbs with the beautiful blossoms that are sold at that time of year. So, the answer is yes! :)

I love your blog list and will come back often to use it. Thank you.

    1. Arizona is the perfect place to spend winter! I used to visit my brother in Phoenix in wintertime and it was so nice! I look forward to seeing your tiny house decor!

  3. Good Morning, I am one who is definitely ready for Fall and cooler weather. This summer has been brutal on the Cumberland Plateau of Tennessee... We have had one of the hottest summers since we moved here in 2003. AND of course, with heat comes humidity... AND as if that is not enough, we have had an extremely dry summer.. Our drought is getting desperate... Hubby has been watering (with sprinklers) the yard for the past 3 weeks or so --and that helps some (not on our water bill) --but the big trees are really stressed... NOT FUN when dealing with Mother Nature... SO ---YES---I am definitely ready for some cooler and hopefully wetter weather!!!!!

Love your new pillows... Beautiful colors of late summer/early fall...

    Hugs,
    Betsy

    1. Thank you Betsy! I live in Nashville and we have had quite a bit of rain here. The Plateau is my favorite area to hike -- Virgin Falls, Cummins Falls, Fall Creek Falls, etc. I LOVE it up there. You are also closer to the Smokies! Lucky you!

  4. So much to say with this post I'll try to remember it all.mfirst of all, mthats first picture really caught my eye.mis that a mushroom?

How lucky are you that you got to take home that bouquet! It is perfect for this time of year, as we slowly transition to Autumn.

The urn is very pretty, and what a bargain! Just a suggestion, but you could try mixing store bought flowers with items Mother Nature provides for a unique arrangement.

The best luck I've had drying hydrangeas is when I actually don't try to do it. I just let them use up the water and leave them alone for however long it takes. Not the most scientific way, but it works!

    1. I actually love your idea of using items from nature in my urn and indoor decor. I always bring in pinecones, holly and berries. I am going to be on the lookout for some beautiful grasses and twigs to mix with store bought hydrangeas, etc. for my urn and my basket. I have a wonderful field near my house that always has beautiful stalks of grasses and small bushes.

Yes -- that IS a huge mushroom - or fungi - I guess. It was so intricate!

I am going to buy some hydrangeas at the florist and see how they do just letting them sit and dry out.

      Thanks for stopping by!
